How Printed Edges Work:
Step 1: This is a newer & niche technique, significantly different than digitally sprayed edges. To ensure you understand what you're ordering, we recommend reviewing our info sheet first.
Step 2: By purchasing this listing, you’re paying a deposit for and exclusively claiming this design. Additional amounts due (if any) will be arranged via invoicing. To determine the final price, see our price list.
Step 3: After purchasing this design, you’ll receive an email with a link to our customization form. There, you’ll let us know all the details of your project. Do you want to adjust the colors? Apply it yourself in Vellum or have us apply it to your finished PDF? What’s your trim size? Allowed customizations and printer compatibility vary by design. To learn about this particular design, see below. You can purchase this listing at any time, even if your book isn’t finished. When it is ready, fill out the form and we’ll get to work on it!
Step 4: When we send your completed file, we’ll also provide you with a digital mockup of your book with the edges on it, and a final invoice will be sent for the remainder due.
Step 5: Order a physical proof copy from a printer of your choosing.
*Our files meet all industry standard requirements, giving you the best possible chance of success with printers, and we actively track shifts in industry policies, but we cannot guarantee every printer will handle or accept our files.
At the time of sale, the only (possible) printer limitations for this design that Painted Wings Publishing is aware of are:
48HourBooks—This particular listing is not compatible with 48HourBooks' design limitations.
Draft2Digital—Draft2Digital does not allow color interior printing (any color elements will print in grayscale)

*This listing’s digital mockups are with 6x9 specs. Cropping, resizing, or other small alterations may occur to fit this design to your book, but the essentials of the aesthetic will remain.

Design Possibilities: 
—This design has a background that stretches to cover any 300+ page count, with the main design element centered in the middle.
*If used on slimmer books, part of the design will be cropped on the left and right.
 
Customizations: Image may be inverted (white becomes back and vice versa) or other simple color changes. If unsure, please email first to ask if what you want is possible. (no extra cost)
 
Application: You can choose to have us either apply the edges to a finished PDF or supply a file for you to apply yourself within the Vellum formatting program (complete with instructions on how to apply it). The price is the same, though the cost of future revisions will vary.

Licensing Details:
—This purchase is commercially licensed for (1) Author/Publisher to use on up to (1) book title and (1) trim size. (Up to 500k prints)
—Similar to many cover designers, editors, etc, we require a credit on your copyright page.
—It is strongly suggested you request a physical proof from your printer before publishing or ordering any retail copies. At no time will Painted Wings Publishing be held financially or legally responsible for any problems, costs, fees, or expenses incurred as a result of using our files. By purchasing this listing, you acknowledge you’ve read our guidelines and recommendations (via our info sheet) and you understand third-party limitations when it comes to the quality of the final product’s outcome. You assume the risk that there may be cases where the printer’s process detracts from Painted Wings Publishing’s design, and it is outside of PWP’s control, and you may have limited options regarding replacement or refund when it comes to third-party printer costs.

Acceptable/Unacceptable Usage (Vellum users):
—Purchasing Author/Publisher may use their PDF edge files on their own books in Vellum via Vellum’s ‘borders’ function. Files may be supplied to a formatter of Author’s/Publisher’s choosing for application, but the license does not transfer for usage beyond the original terms. (Painted Wings Publishing also formats, if you’re looking to hire that out!)
—You may not share or sell our files.
 
Unacceptable Usage (all orders):
—You may not use or share proprietary information regarding Painted Wings Publishing’s technique, files, or communications for the purpose of direct competition.
