Hidden Edges

Hidden Edges are a variation of our signature embedded edge designs.
They can be combined with digitally sprayed edges, traditional stenciled edges, and even gilded edges!

Painted Wings Publishing will embed a custom design directly into your PDF file, which, after you or your printer of choice apply digitally sprayed, traditionally sprayed/painted, or gilded edges, will become a hidden edge only revealed when the pages are bent or splayed open for reading.

This is highly customizable, in some circumstances able to be combined with our alternative inking technique and/or dual edges.

Each project will be unique depending on the designs you want to use and the medium used for the outer edges.

Under Digitally Sprayed Edges (CMYK Ink)

This is an example from a yet-to-be announced collaboration.

Results may vary from printer to printer, and this is the trickiest of the hidden edge options, but we hope to have a confident announcement not long down the road regarding this combination.

Under Stenciled/Sprayed Edges (Paint)

Every paint is different, so we can't estimate the results with all paints.
We always recommend ordering/attempting proof copies before committing to large quantities.

If you want to practice painting over an embedded edge before committing to our design services, you can order from a wide selection of our author-owner's published books, including reading journals and notebooks.

These
[pictures pending] are examples we've done (DIY) with black matte acrylic paint and gold spray paint.

Under Gilded Edges

We haven't yet attempted gilded edges, but this would likely be the most flexible combination, providing solid opacity to cover a wider variety of hidden designs underneath with ease.

Not many printers offer gilded edges, though we have plans to DIY some examples with gilding down the road.
